White water mold is a white, slimy biofilm that can develop in pool water and plumbing when sanitation levels or circulation are inadequate. Consistent water treatment, brushing, and routine maintenance help eliminate and prevent white water mold.

Ammonia is a contaminant that can enter pool water through fertilizers, lawn chemicals, insect repellents, and other nitrogen-containing products. Once present, it quickly consumes chlorine, making it difficult to maintain proper sanitizer levels. Treating ammonia typically requires repeated shock treatments until the pool can maintain a chlorine residual for an extended period.

Pool stains can be caused by metals, organic debris, or other contaminants. A common test is to rub a chlorine tablet on the stained area. If the stain fades, it is usually organic. If there is little or no change, metals such as iron or copper may be the cause. Metal stains often require specialized treatments, while proper water chemistry can help prevent future staining.

To backwash a sand filter, turn off the pump and move the multiport valve to the Backwash setting. Restart the pump and allow it to run until the water appears clear in the sight glass. Turn the pump off again, switch the valve to Rinse for about 30 seconds, then return it to the Filter position. Regular backwashing removes trapped debris and helps maintain proper filtration.

Pool water should be tested at least once each week to ensure chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and stabilizer levels remain within the recommended range. More frequent testing may be needed during periods of heavy use, extreme heat, or after significant rainfall. Routine chemical adjustments help maintain clear, balanced water and reduce the risk of algae growth and other water quality issues.

If your chlorinator isn’t receiving water, it’s often due to restricted flow somewhere in the circulation system. Check that the pump is operating correctly, the filter is clean, and the system pressure is within the normal range. Inspect the chlorinator lid seal, tubing, and control valve for blockages or improper positioning. In most cases, restoring normal water flow resolves the problem.
